چکیده
Accidental aspiration of liquid hydrocarbon mixture by animators who blow flame may lead to severe lipoid pneumonia.1-3 This situation that occurs due to accidental aspiration of liquid hydrocarbon mixture (gas oil, gas oil-cognac mix) during animation shows is called “Fire Eater’s Pneumonia” in the literature, which has been presented in few cases.1,2,4,5 Different consequences may occur through the high and low viscosity products.5,6 In cases reported in the literature, the main clinical symptoms are cough, dyspnea, chest pain and fever; the subjects are generally referred to the emergency room with severe dyspnea.7-10 Hereby, we introduce two cases of fire eater’s pneumonia. The first case was a 29-year-old male animator who aspirated liquid gas during his flame-blowing show in a circus. He was admitted to the emergency room with productive cough, fever and severe dyspnea. He had taken lamb oil in his mouth 18 hours ago and blew this mix to a stick in order to conduct a flame-blowing show. Immediately after the show, the cough had started. In the chest radiography, partial opacities eliminating the heart and diaphragmatic contours in bilateral lower zones were determined (Fig. 1A). Thoracic CT showed

Case Report of Fire Eater’s Pneumonia in Adolescent Female Patient – Evolution of Radiologic Findings
BACKGROUND We present a case of a 16-year-old girl with fire-eater's pneumonia (hydrocarbon pneumonitis). The goal of this report was to assess evolution of radiological findings. CASE REPORT The reported case was unique because that was the first completely described case of fire-eater's pneumonia reported in an under-aged person. Moreover, this disease is very rare even in adults and only a...
متن کاملExogenous lipoid pneumonia – a case report of a fire-eater
BACKGROUND Exogenous lipoid pneumonia is an uncommon condition caused by inhalation or aspiration of a fatty substance. It usually presents as chronic respiratory illness mimicking interstitial lung diseases. Acute exogenous lipoid pneumonia is uncommon and typically is caused by an episode of aspiration of a large quantity of a petroleum-based product. Radiological findings vary and may imitat...
متن کاملFire-eater's pneumonia after aspiration of liquid paraffin.
Fire-eater's pneumonia is a distinct type of chemical pneumonitis that results from aspiration of different types of hydrocarbons. This article describes a case of fire-eater's pneumonia due to accidental aspiration of liquid paraffin. The adolescent patient became febrile the day after the accident. The diagnosis of fire-eater's pneumonia was delayed because aspiration history was not divulged...
متن کاملAcute respiratory distress syndrome after aspiration of lamp oil in a fire-eater: a case report
BACKGROUND Fire-eater's pneumonia is an exogenous chemical pneumonitis after accidental aspiration of hydrocarbon fluids during the act of fire-eating. There have been few case reports in the literature regarding complications after fire-eating but so far none, to the best of our knowledge, have described such drastic and life-threatening pulmonary complications as in this case while only havin...
متن کاملFire-eater's pneumonia characterized by pneumatocele formation and spontaneous resolution.
Liquid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum are widely used in industry and in households. Aspiration of massive amounts may lead to an acute and fatal form of exogenous lipoid pneumonia (fire-eater's pneumonia). We present a rare case of chemical pneumonitis following accidental lamp oil aspiration characterized by pneumatocele formation and spontaneous resolution. Initial findings on posteroan...
